It would be great if this film makes them think about their mothers. 4,629 Likes, 14 Comments - BL UPDATE (blupdate2020) on Instagram: ToMyStar2 stars Kim Kang Min and Son Woo Hyeon for De Ling Magazine Issue 132. I want audiences to take a different feeling, texture, and emotion from this short film. But I hope audiences enjoy my film from the opening to the ending. KKUM is the most personal and strangest film I have made. What do you hope people take away from the short? I know how much she loves me, but also her dreams give me a lot of limitations and shackles. I think that I am addicted to her dreams and try to follow her caution if she has a bad dream. Like I mentioned before, I rely on her dreams more than any religion. I used to make very bright and colorful animations before, but KKUM is black and white, so she couldn’t find any beauty from it.Īt the end your Mother has a bad dream and tells you to stay inside. Yes, I saw it, but she couldn’t react to it at first. Has your Mom seen the short and where you say thank you? I think that my mother expresses her emotion and love through dreams and prayers.

You say ‘I am made of my Mom’s dreams and prayers’. So I rely on her dreams more than any religion. My mother’s dreams have always been strong premonitions for important moments in my life. My mother always worries too much about me. I am the only child in my family and am living in LA. So I had to use black and white to decrease production time. And I used less than $100 to make this film, and I had only 2 months to finish it. Foam was changing its color during production, so I couldn’t use its original color. First reason is that I heard that many people dream in black and white.Īnd the second reason is material and budget. Why did you go with the black and white aesthetic? I wanted to find materials that could create a unique, prominent character while also having a very rich texture to it. I like to tell you the main materials because the materials are related to technique and the visual style. After 2019 season, he earned FA qualification and remained at 1 billion won (1+1 year) in total. (2020), a minimalist stop-motion animation made entirely with Styrofoam for a budget of USD 80, became one of the rare few titles to take home both the Nelvana Grand Prize for Independent Short Animation and the Public Prize at the Ottawa International Animation Festival. Is it stop motion or just made to look like stop motion? His following title (2017) made into the Animation Spotlight section of Sundance and earned a Special Jury Recognition from the SXSW Film Festival. It was shown at Sundance and won Best Animation Short at the Melbourne International Film Festival, on top of a Special Jury Mention at Animafest Zagreb and the KAFA Award for Best Korean Picture at the Busan International Short Film Festival, among others, and went on to be nominated for an Annie Award. His 2015 short, the stop-motion animated, was a tremendous hit on the festival circuit owing to his creative use of different techniques such as 3D printing, hand-drawn animation and textured paper cut-outs. Now a freelance animator and graphic designer based in Los Angeles, KIM established Studio Zazac in 2013 and began a long collaboration with Open the Portal, whose founder he met at CalArts, and for which he produced a large number of commercials. His graduation work was completed in 2011 and was screened at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival before winning Best Short from the San Diego Asian Film Festival. He then moved to the US to attend a BFA and a MFA programs in Experimental Animation at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). He made his name with the animation shorts (2009) and (2009), the latter of which was in competition at the Zagreb International Animation Festival.
